Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir, a member of Reykjavík’s city council for the Independence Party holds a 40.2 percent approval rating from the people of Reykjavík, as shown by a recent poll, conducted by Fréttabladid.
The agreement between the Liberal Party and the Independence Party in Reykjavík’s city council states that the two parties will share the mayor’s office this term. The Liberal Party’s candidate, Ólafur F. Magnússon will serve one year, and a candidate from the Independence Party will serve the second year.
The Independence party has yet to announce its candidate, who will take office in March 2009. The former mayor and a council member from the Independence party, Vilhjálmur T.Vilhjálmsson only received a 10.8 percent approval rating, according to the poll.
