Handicraft and Design Festival in Akureyri

The Arctic Handicraft and Design Festival opened today in Hrafnagil, a 15-minute drive south of Akureyri, for the 23rd time. Organizers promise this one to be the best of them all. Altogether, there will be 94 participants—artists, designers and producers. In addition, 55 parties contribute to the craft and food market.

The festival is open Thursday, Friday and Sunday, while Saturday is reserved for a food market from the Eyjafjörður area. At that market, many exciting items will be offered, such as quail eggs and beestings (the first milk from a cow after its calf is born). New participants arrive every day.

The food market offers jam, juice and all kinds of delicacies made from the finest local ingredients.

Some products at the market are made of the most unusual material, such as lava from Eyjafjallajökull, reindeer hide and fish leather.

The festival is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 12:00-19:00, Sunday 12:00-18:00.

A minibus from Saga Travel will offer transportation to and from the festival.

The buses leave downtown Akureyri at 12:30, 14:30 and 16:30.

Departure form Hrafnagil is at 15:00, 17:00 and 18:00.
