Handicraft and Design against Crisis

By Iceland Review

An association for people interested in handicraft and design was founded in Djúpivogur in southeast Iceland on Monday with the purpose of fighting the national economic crisis by strengthening the local economy.

Members of the association include Björg Erlingsdóttir, director of the Hornafjördur Culture Center, fashion designer Signý Ormarsdóttir, who is also the East Iceland culture representative, and Ari Thorsteinsson, project leader of the Iceland Innovation Center, ruv.is reports.

Local Djúpivogur designer Ágústa Margrét Arnardsóttir also attended the launch of the association, who markets her products under the label of GUSTA DESIGN. The group aims towards operating workshops on behalf of the association in the future.
