Hallgrímskirkja Transforms Into Giant Candle

Amnesty International will be transforming Hallgrímskirkja church into a gigantic list of signatures this weekend. RÚV reports.

“We’re turning Hallgrímskirkja into a giant candle. We’ve teamed up with two artists from Venezuela. They’re closing the loop on this concept because they know what it means to fight for human rights. The goal is to do what Amnesty does best, fighting for more justice in the world,” Helga Ósk Hlynsdóttir told RÚV. She is working on the project through the company Serious Business, along with Amnesty International.

Hallgrímskirkja is located on the top of Skólavörðustígur in central Reykjavík and is among the nation’s tallest structures. The project, named A Paper to Save Lives (Bréf til bjargar lífi) is akin to Amnesty’s letter marathon, which has been held twelve times before. According to Anna Lúðvíkdsdóttir from Amnesty, this year’s focus is on fighting for the human rights of others.

Anyone can participate, either by signing on the spot or via www.amnesty.is
