Hafnarfjördur Sells up to 95 Percent in Heating Utility

By Iceland Review

The town council of Hafnarfjördur, a neighboring town of Reykjavík, agreed at a meeting yesterday to sell up to 95 percent of the town’s share in Sudurnes Heating Utility (HS) to Reykjavík Energy (OR).

The agreement coincides with a proposal submitted by council members of the Social Democrats and the Left Green Movement. Independence Party members proposed selling Hafnarfjördur’s entire share to OR, ruv.is reports.

At the meeting it was also decided that a multi-partisan committee would work on an agreement with OR on stock exchange.

The final amount of HS stocks that will be sold to OR has yet to be decided upon by Hafnarfjördur town council as well as how proceeds will be disbursed.
