Hafnarfjördur Murderer Sent to Secure Confinement

The perpetrator is also to pay each of the victim’s parents ISK 1.8 million (USD 15,000, EUR 11,000) in damages and almost ISK 1.3 million (USD 11,000, EUR 8,000) in funeral costs, ruv.is reports.

The ruling states that due to schizophrenia, Sigurthórsson was unable to control his actions when the murder was committed. He is therefore non compos mentis and was acquitted of the murder charge.

However, he is considered dangerous, as he described his violent thoughts while in custody. It is therefore in the interest of public safety that he is to remain in secure confinement, the court concluded.
