Hafnarfjördur Celebrates 100 Years

Hafnafjödur, pop. 25,000, just south of Reykjavík, celebrates 100 years since incorporation. The program is packed with all sorts of happenings.

According to an interview in Morgunbladid with the town’s mayor, Lúdvík Geirsson, the town will turn into a carnival during the celebrations. Concerts that vary from folk music to punk, outdoor cinema and a Viking festival. The highlight will be on Sunday, the Icelandic Seamen’s day, then the town’s council offers visitors a piece of a 100-meter-long cake which the town’s finest bakers have been making all week.
