Hafnarfjördur Bank Robbed

The Capital Region Police is searching for a man who committed an armed robbery in the branch of Landsbanki Bank in Baejarhraun in Hafnarfjördur yesterday morning. The man threatened the staff with two knives and escaped the premises with some money.

“The employees were very frightened, but they are unharmed,” Anna Sigurdardóttir, managing director of Landsbanki Bank’s branch and individual service division, told Fréttabladid. She added that the staff had done the right thing and followed the bank’s safety standers for situations like these.

The bank robber is still unfound. Police organized an extensive search in the lava fields between Hafnarfjördur and Gardabaer yesterday. Coast Guard helicopter TF EIR participated in the search.

The man was dressed in a hooded jumper, covered his face with a scarf and carried an Adidas backpack at the time of the robbery. The bank’s employees estimate that he is between 17 and 25, ruv.is reports.

The Capital Region Police request that anyone who can provide information about the bank robber contact their hotline via (+354) 444-1100.
