The Football Association of Iceland has named Tottenham Hotspur’s midfielder Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson and Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir of FC Rosengård Footballers of the Year.

The judges noted that Gylfi was key in Iceland’s success in the World Cup 2014 qualifiers, scoring important goals. Gylfi played eight of the national team’s ten matches in 2013, scoring three goals. In the English Premier League, Gylfi has played 12 of Tottenham’s 16 games this season.
Sara was considered fundamental in the national team in women’s football’s success in the eight-team finals of the European Championships in Sweden. Sara played 12 of the team’s 13 matches and scored two goals.

At FC Rosengård (formerly Malmö), Sara scored eight goals in 20 games and the team went on to win the Swedish title convincingly, losing just one game in 22. Sara was among three footballers to be nominated as best female midfielder in Sweden last season.
