Gunnar Nelson Wins UFC Fight

Iceland’s Ultimate Fighting Championship star Gunnar Nelson beat American Brandon Thatch in UFC 189 in Las Vegas last night in under three minutes. “Gunnar Nelson proved points on the feet and the ground, dropping Brandon Thatch with a combination of punches, then sinking in a fight-ending rear-naked choke in Round 1,” MMA Junkie describes.

Likewise, Bleacher Report wrote: “After feeling his opponent out, the Icelandic grappler nailed a perfect jab-cross combination that rocked the lanky welterweight. From there, Nelson worked his preternatural grappling skills and scored a quick, impressive submission in the first round.”

Gunnar thanked the crowd for their support during the match. “The game plan is important, but with me, instincts take over and I’m just glad I was able to get the better of him. The fans here tonight were so amazing.”

Gunnar had originally been down to fight John Hathaway but he had to pull out due to injury.

Gunnar’s record is 14-1-1 (win-loss-draw) while Thatch’s is 11-3-0.
