A man wearing a ski mask, armed with a shotgun, knocked on a door in the Reykjavík district of Breidholt in the early hours of Sunday morning and started shooting as the door was answered.
No one was harmed in the shooting as the person who answered the door closed it immediately after spotting the gunman. The man fired four or five shots into the door and the window next to it, Morgunbladid reports.
The inhabitant, who lives alone in the apartment, called the police and the special forces were called out. However, when they arrived to the scene the gunman was gone and is still on the loose.
The shooter’s identity is unknown, as is the motive for the attack. Police are investigating the case but are looking for witnesses.
“It seems to be an isolated incident and not directed at the general public,” said chief constable Fridrik Smári Björgvinsson. He doesn’t think the gunman poses a danger to other citizens.
The inhabitant of the apartment would not comment to Morgunbladid on this story.
