Group of Nine Might Appeal Case to Strasbourg

Ragnar Adalsteinsson, the lawyer representing nine individuals who are facing charges for attacking the Althingi parliament in the 2009 protests, said he wouldn’t be surprised if their case will end up before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

“I have to tell it like it is: the case’s treatment hasn’t been exemplary in my opinion. I believe that the legal status of the defendants hasn’t been protected the way it should be. Therefore everything has been documented. A dismissal has been demanded for various reasons,” Adalsteinsson told Morgunbladid.

He said it is safest to block all possible avenues for dismissal that the Human Rights Court might find on the basis of this case not being prepared carefully enough in Iceland. “The dossier must entail exactly how the case has been handled.”
