Grocery prices in Iceland increased by up to 6.8 percent in 2013, according to the latest price survey carried out by the Icelandic Confederation of Labor.
Inflation in Iceland over the last 12 months was 4.0 percent. In four grocery store chains, the price increase was higher than inflation. At Víðir, prices were 6.8 percent higher than one year ago, 5.6 percent higher at Kaupfélag Steingrímsfjarðar in the West Fjords region of Strandir, 5.5 percent in Nettó and 5.4 percent in supermarket Iceland.
In Bónus, Krónan, Hagkaup, Nóatún, 10-11, Samkaup and Kjarval, the increase was about the same as the rate of inflation. In Kaskó and Kaupfélagi Vestur Húnvetninga, the prices were lower than one year ago, mbl.is reports.
