Greenstone Data Center to Open in Iceland in 2011

Greenstone software company has reached an agreement with an American corporation on using a data center in Iceland. Greenstone board member Henk Wiering said that hopefully construction can begin as soon as next fall and that the data center will open in early 2011.

Greenstone representatives met with Icelandic authorities and energy companies before Easter where the agreement with the American company was presented, Morgunbladid reports.

Greenstone is planning to construct other data centers in Iceland in the next five years and to establish a marine cable to the US. With everything included, the investment could amount to approximately ISK 200 billion (USD 1.6 billion, EUR 1.2 billion).
