Greenlander Arrested with Over a Kilo of Hash

Customs officers at Keflavík International Airport have stopped a man carrying over a kilogram of cannabis in his luggage.

Earlier this month customs officers stopped a man in his twenties and who turned out to be carrying 1.2 kg of hash in his suitcase.

DV reports that the man is a Greenlandic citizen and was traveling from Denmark on June 3, with a connecting flight to Greenland booked the same day.

He told the officers the hash was for personal use, and possibly some to sell on in Greenland.

The Suðurnes police investigated the case, which is now closed and has been sent to prosecutors.

The case was the second time in a month that a Greenlander has been stopped in Iceland carrying large amounts of hash while traveling home from Denmark. On May 5 another man was arrested with 800 grams of the drug hidden inside a folder.

1.2 kg of hash is a very large amount to be carrying in a suitcase. The substance is sold in units as small as one gram—meaning the man could have got himself and a friend high about 1,200 times—if he hadn’t been arrested.
