Green April Kicks Off in Iceland

An environmental initiative called Graenn apríl (“Green April”) kicked off at Reykjavík City Hall on Friday with an address from Minister for the Environment Svandís Svavarsdóttir. She then cut a ribbon to mark the beginning of the initiative.

Rapper Ólafur Gunnar Daníelsson premiered a song about the environment and us, written specifically for the occasion, and actress Edda Björgvinsdóttir gave a speech on environmental issues, as it says on the initiative’s website.

The initiative’s purpose, which was organized by a group of environmental enthusiasts, is to have the government, municipalities, companies, organizations and individuals promote green products, knowledge and services which support sustainability in Iceland.

Anyone can register to support the project.
