Grandma Denies Being Dead

When the granddaughter of Guðný Ásgeirsdóttir, a 94-year-old woman, came to her deathbed after being told her grandma had passed away, she was greeted by the old woman, Nútíminn reports.

A mistake at the nursing home caused a staff member to notify the relatives of a wrong woman of her death. The two have names that resemble each other. When Guðný learned of the reason for the granddaughter’s visit, she flatly denied being dead. Before the misunderstanding was corrected, numerous relatives had been notified and a date set for the funeral, according to DV.

Guðný’s grandson, Friðgeir Torfi Ásgeirsson, said his grandmother took the news calmly: “She maintained that the reports of her death were greatly exaggerated. She didn’t exactly find this funny, only bizarre… She had had a fine day despite her death. She also enjoyed having the visit.”

A staff member at the nursing home apologized for the mistake.
