Government agrees to subsidize adoptions

Icelandic National Broadcasting System, RÚV, reports that the government has agreed to subsidize adoptions. This was agreed at a cabinet meeting Friday morning; the minister of social affairs, Árni Magnússon, said that the detailed implementation of the policy will be concluded in the next few weeks.

Árni submitted his plans for adoption subsidies to the cabinet and received a favorable response, he said. Concrete plans for implementation were not ready, he said, but the amount of the subsidy will vary depending on the country of origin.
