Good Outlook for Iceland Easter Weather

The weather forecast for the upcoming Easter break looks good. According to the Icelandic Met Office, a páskahret, or Easter cold spell, is not expected and so people should be able to enjoy outdoor recreation during the five-day holiday.

On Good Friday, snowfall is predicted in Northwest Iceland. Elsewhere, not much precipitation is expected and none in the capital region, reports.

Many skiers have set their sights on Akureyri’s ski resort Hlíðarfjall, where conditions are said to be perfect. “The slopes are as good as they get and there is hardly any wind,” stated the ski resort’s director Guðmundur Karl Jónsson.

“The sun is shining and it is wind still,” said Sólrún Geirsdóttir, employee of the Ísafjörður ski resort in the West Fjords. “Conditions are great and there’s plenty of snow.”

A special ‘ski week’ begins in the resort today. The program includes a funny clothing day on Friday, when “people wear pajamas on top of their ski suits,” according to Sólrún. Candy rain is also on the program, as is an Easter egg hunt on Saturday.

The annual Aldrei fór ég suður music festival will take place in Ísafjörður over the Easter weekend.
