Golfers Flee Iceland

Even though the golfing season is coming to an end in Iceland, golfers are not putting their clubs away; fall golfing packages to destinations outside of Iceland are almost sold out according to an interview with travel agents in Morgunblaðið.

Golfers of all ages, but mainly 35 to 75, are signing up to play golf in Portugal, Turkey, Thailand and Malaysia; the most popular destination is Spain. Demand for golf package tours abroad is in line with Icelanders’ increased interest in golf. Golfers have started shortening their summer vacations – usually six weeks – by one or two weeks to be able to take time off to play golf abroad in the spring and fall. Morgunblaðið reports that theme vacations such as golf, hiking, biking and skiing are becoming increasingly popular.
