Goats and Chickens Popular Christmas Gifts

This Christmas, Icelanders gave a total of 518 goats and 607 chickens as Christmas presents, Rúv.is reports.

In recent years, the Icelandic Church Aid has offered Christmas gift certificates. This Christmas, orders went up by 50 percent compared to the previous year.

A variety of gift certificates can be purchased via the Icelandic Church Aid’s website. For them, a goat, a chicken, school supplies, a vegetable garden or some other essential item is then purchased and donated to an impoverished family somewhere in the world.

This year, goats and chickens were the most popular gift choices but many also bought water wells or contributed to freeing children in India from debt slavery.
