Glowing City Project Launched in Reykjavík

The City of Reykjavík launched the project “Glowing City” yesterday [09.10.09] in conjunction with the relighting of Yoko Ono’s Imagine Peace Tower on Videy Island, off Reykjavík’s coast, to commemorate her late husband John Lennon’s birthday, October 9.

The project involves white lights that will glow in different places in the city center and in primary meeting places in city districts to celebrate winter. The purpose is to raise the public’s awareness of beautiful places and curious opportunities that lie within city limits, visir.is reports.

Mayor of Reykjavík Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir said the project “Bright Reykjavík” of last summer had proven highly successful and that “Glowing City” is being organized in continuation of that project. She hopes it will cheer inhabitants up and make the city more homey and fun.

In honor of John Lennon’s birthday, a tribute concert was held in Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús last night.
