Gistihús Erlu Closes for Good

The guesthouse Gistihús Erlu in Patreksfjörður, in Iceland’s West Fjords, will close after being in operation for decades. Gistihús Erlu was for many years the only place which offered both food and accommodation in Europe’s westernmost town.

The 83-year-old guesthouse owner, Erla Hafliðadóttir told bb.is: “I think that my time is up,” she said. Erla has welcomed three presidents over the years: Kristján Eldjárn, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir and Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson.”
