Girl Builds Snow Castle, Considers Airbnb

Seven-year-old Clara Charlotte has built a huge snow house in her backyard in Ísafjörður in the West Fjords where she regularly holds tea parties, RÚV reports.

With the help of her dad, a snow blower, and some snow borrowed from neighbours, Clara has built a snow house with an interior measuring several square metres. The house has not one but two rooms, connected by a window which, Clara says, is used to “make sure everything is going well.”

To build the house, Clara’s dad used the snow blower to pile up snow in the backyard, and the family hollowed it out with shovels. The snow dug out from the structure is then blown over the structure again. Árni Þór Helgason, Clara’s father, says the snow blower removes air from the snow, making it thicker material and better for construction.

Clara holds tea parties and plays make-believe in the house. “Sometimes we pretended we lived here and didn’t have a house,” she says.

The family even discussed renting the house through Airbnb. “If I had a bathroom in the garage then I would probably do that,” Clara’s dad said. Clara, on the other hand, is not sure she would like to live in the snow house. “Maybe it’s a bit too cold and then you would have to sleep in your clothes and then you’d just be sweating,” she said.
