Giant Italian cruiser anchored in Reykjavík

The Italian cruise ship Costa Classica, which has room for 1,300 passengers, is currently anchored at Skarfabakki bank by Sundahöfn harbor in Reykjavík. The cruiser is one of 77 to visit Iceland this summer.

“Most of the cruise ships come from Europe and most of the passengers are German,” Ágúst Ágústsson, the marketing director of Faxaflói Bay Harbors told Bladid. “Skarfabakki was taken into usage last summer and up to four cruisers can cast anchor there at the same time.”

“We are currently constructing facilities – 400 to 500 square meters in size – for the cruisers,” Ágústsson added. The new facilities will include an information center, a café for tourists and a parking lot for tourist buses and special facilities for guides.
