A young German tourist, Christian Mathias Markus, born October 11, 1980 is missing. He was last seen on Thursday, September 18, when he left the hotel in Breiðavík in the West Fjords.
According to mbl.is Christian was traveling alone in a rented car, a Suzuki Grand Vitara. The car was found empty at the Látrabjarg parking lot yesterday morning. Látrabjarg is a very popular tourist destination in Iceland, not far from the Breiðavík hotel.
The Icelandic police were notified of his disappearance over the weekend by the man’s family. A search and rescue team, the West Fjords police and the Coast Guard’s helicopter all participated in the search yesterday and are going out again this morning. The police has had no new information on Markus’ movements.
