German Sausages Confiscated in Seyðisfjörður

Several groups of German tourists who recently arrived on the Norræna ferry from the continent to Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland, have received attention for traveling the country while spending very little if any money. The tourists sleep on the bus and bring all food and drinks with them from the mainland.

Yesterday, customs authorities stopped four buses full of beer, wine and German sausages, ruv.is reports.

It is illegal to bring large quantities of alcohol and food to Iceland without paying heavy duties. Customs confiscated the goods but will return them when the travelers board the ferry back to Germany.

Meanwhile they will have to live with eating Icelandic pylsur (sausages) and drinking local beer.
