German Film Days, March 11-20

By Iceland Review

For the sixth year in a row, there will be German film days at Bíó Paradís cinema, Reykjavík, March 11-20. The film days are organized by Bíó Paradís and the Goethe-Institute in Denmark, in cooperation with the German Embassy in Iceland.

This time, six new films are featured representing a cross section of the best the German film industry has to offer. The film days open with the much discussed Elser (13 Minutes), directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (best known for Downfall). This is a film about the rebel who tried to assassinate Hitler on November 8, 1939.

Other award-winning movies featured are: Phoenix, a film full of deception; We Are Young. We Are Strong, based on the neo-Nazi attacks on Vietnamese in Berlin in 1992; Me and Kaminski, a tragicomedy about a hopeless writer who attempts to write the biography of the blind artist Manuel Kaminski; Victoria, a suspense referred to as a “cinematic achievement,” which takes us throughout Berlin; and B-Movie: Lust and Sound in West-Berlin 1979-1989, which looks back at a decade of music and art in Berlin.

All the films are in German with English subtitles. For show times, visit bioparadis.is.
