A rescue team of more than fifty persons, aided by a Coast Guard helicopter, have started to search for a German couple who has not been seen since last Saturday.

The couple’s original plan was to hike over Eyjabakkajökull, a glacier tongue from the mighty Vatnajökull glacier, but turned around, and has not been seen since, ruv.is reports.
The area, north of Vatnajökull glacier, is Iceland’s most remote, with almost no roads, making it particularly difficult for the rescue team to carry out its search.
The couple, who are around 60 years old, are reportedly experienced hikers and have hiked in Iceland before.
