German Angler Catches Largest Halibut This Summer

A German tourist who went sea angling in the West Fjords on Thursday caught a giant halibut, which weighs 219 kilos and measures two and a half meters. It is by far the largest halibut caught by sea anglers in Iceland this summer.

According to, this might even be the largest halibut ever caught this way in the world.

The boat on which the lucky sea anglers caught the giant halibut is called Jasmine ÍS-431 and is operated by Víkurbátar ehf. in Bolungarvík.

The West Fjords have become a popular destination among sea anglers and there is often news of a big catch.
