The cost of one liter of gas has risen from ISK 137 to ISK 248 (USD 2, EUR 1.6), or by 80 percent.

The price of gas has gone up internationally, but the government has raised local taxes on gas by 164 percent, adding a new carbon emissions tax.

In Iceland, the average family car is driven 18,000 kilometers a year.
