Gangs of Burglars Linked

By Iceland Review

In the past few days, the Reykjavik Police Department has uncovered three different gangs of burglars, all of Polish nationality, reports. The investigation has already led to the arrest of twenty men, and eight more are in custody.

House searches have revealed a large quantity of stolen goods, and the Police find it unlikely that much of it has been smuggled out of the country.

According to deputy chief constable Ómar Smári Ármannsson, the groups in question are small, without any formal ties. However, they are internally related due to friendships between a few of their members. During questioning, the suspects denied to disclose whether they were sent to Iceland specifically to perform these burglaries, as the police suspect.

Some of the detainees refused to reveal their names and addresses in Poland. Nonetheless, the police have obtained that information, partly due to cooperation with the International Affairs Department of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police as well as foreign law enforcement agencies.
