A new Gallup poll reveals that the Pirate Party now enjoys the support of most voters in the City of Reykjavík, RÚV reports. Their support is 27.5 percent, but the party only received 5.9 percent of the vote in last year’s municipal elections. Thus, their support has increased five-fold. The Social Democratic Alliance ranks second, according to the poll, with 24.7 percent support, which is almost 7 percentage points lower than in last year’s elections, while the Independence Party ranks third with 23.4 percent support (down more than two percentage points since last year).
Support for the Left-Green Movement increases from 8.3 to 11 percent, whereas for Bright Future it goes from 15.6 to 8.1 percent. The Progressive Party and Friends of the Airport now enjoy 4.4 percent of support, compared with 10.7 percent in last year’s elections.
The Pirate Party enjoys most support among voters under the age of 55, but support for The Independence Party and the Progressive Party increases as voters get older.
The Social Democratic Alliance, Bright Future, Left-Green Movement and the Pirate Party now make up the city government.
