Gallery Opens in New Record Store Havarí

Gallery Havarí opens today at 2 pm inside the new Reykjavík record store Havarí on Austurstraeti 6 in the city center. Ten of Iceland’s “most cutting edge” and “hottest” visual artists will exhibit and sell their artwork at the new gallery.

Participating artists include Sindri Már Sigfússon of the bands Seabear and Sin Fang Bous, who apparently is not only a musician, Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir, a creator of music videos, album covers and member of the band Seabear, Davíd Örn Halldórsson, who has been making a name for himself in the world of art and designed the cover of the new Hjálmar album, Bjargey Ólafsdóttir, who was nominated for the Leopold Godowsky, Jr. Color Photography Awards earlier this year, and Hugleikur Dagsson, known for being a crude cartoonist and playwright.

The record store is also expanding its services with a cooperation agreement with Café Haítí, “the smallest (and best?) café in Iceland,” a press release reveals. Now visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee while listening to music and admiring visual art.

Havarí is hoping to become a hub for shopping and culture in downtown Reykjavík and not only sell music and art, but also various music-related products, clothing and other items. The record store even plans to host the occasional concert.
