Gains and losses at the polls

Iceland’s Independence Party has gained support, while the Progressive Party and the Social Democrats have lost ground, according to a new poll by the daily Fréttabladid. The Progressives have lost so much backing since the 2003 elections that their coalition with the Independence Party no longer enjoys majority support. The poll also shows the Left-Green Alliance is growing in popularity, and the Liberal Party is losing ground.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />
