Future Land to Boost Economy of West Fjords

The Future Land, an organization encouraging innovative job creation in Iceland, is holding a convention in Ísafjördur in the West Fjords on Saturday entitled “The West Fjords on the Drawing Board” to discuss how to boost the local economy.

Sverrir Björnsson from the advertising agency Hvíta húsid and former reporters Sigmundur Davíd Gunnlaugsson and Björg Eva Erlendsdóttir will speak at the convention, ruv.is reports.

Experts on innovation and pioneers in the economy of the West Fjords will be in attendance, including representatives from Villimey herbal remedies in Tálknafjördur, sea angling tourist company Hvíldarklettur in Sudureyri, Strandagaldur Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft in Hólmavík and the Pirate Center in Patreksfjördur.

Tálknafjördur resident Ólafur Sveinn Jóhannesson had the idea for the convention. He said he has sensed growing frustrations among the people of the West Fjords lately due to the poor condition of the local economy and felt it was time to discuss ideas of how to improve it.
