Full Moon For Fireworks

Icelanders will enjoy a clear sky, blue moon and calm weather tonight when they celebrate the New Year with fireworks and bonfires around the country, reports Fréttabladid today.

“The weather will be cold and still,” said Thorsteinn Jónsson at the Icelandic Weather Institute. According to Jónsson the forecast is similar over the weekend.

Seventeen bonfires have been licensed by the Reykjavík Fire Brigade this year. Most will be lit between 8 and 9 p.m. tonight to burn away the old year and celebrate the new.
