On the morning of Christmas Eve, Matthías Máni Erlingsson, who escaped from prison more than a week ago, appeared on a farm in South Iceland. He woke up the farmer at 5 am.
Source: FacebookThe farmer’s daughter came to the door where Matthías Máni stood heavily armed, with a rifle with a silencer, an ax, some knives and a hammer. He was in good condition, with a map of the area and some food. He called to the woman that he wanted to surrender and asked her to call the police.
The farmer at Ásólfstadir, Sigurdur Páll Ásólfsson, told visir.is that he and his daughter had been shocked when the fugitive arrived, “but then we started to talk to the boy through the kitchen window and offered him soup and smoked meat. We handed it to him through the window, but he seemed easy to talk to so we took him inside.”
“When he came inside we gave him some coffee and Christmas cake and talked to him. He said he didn’t want to let his family suffer by hiding over Christmas. Then we just waited for the police and he ate.”
When the Selfoss police arrived Matthías Máni raised his arms and told them he was surrendering. The police took him to Litla-Hraun prison, arriving at around 6:30 am.
