Friend’s Semen Soon for Sale

Soon, you can order semen from Friend. He first caught attention in 2014 for winning first place at a show on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. His offspring are average in terms of meat content, with a thick and well-shaped back muscle and little fat.

He may not quite compare with Brave Man (Garpur), though, whose semen, along with his son’s, has sold better than any other’s.

All of the above are rams, by the way. They are listed in the latest Ram Report, published annually by the Icelandic Agricultural Advisory Center.

The report lists the names of 48 rams from sheep insemination facilities in South and West Iceland.

The fertility of ewes is at its peak in December, so it’s time for farmers to start planning their Christmas semen shopping. Orders will be accepted as of December 1.

There are 26 rams listed in South Iceland and 22 in the west. Some have horns, (one even boasts four of them); others are hornless. There are even a couple of leaders among them. All are listed with a photo, family tree, a detailed description of their build, their wool, of results they have given, color heredity, in addition to countless statistics and grades received.

Too bad the Ram Report is not distributed to ewes. Apparently, they don’t have a say in the Christmas shopping.
