When France beat Germany 2-0 last night at the EURO 2016 at Stade Vélodrome in Marseille, the French team celebrated the Icelandic way. They did so by borrowing the Viking chant, made world famous by enthusiastic supporters of the Icelandic team, Vísir reports.
After the game, the French team members raised their arms the way the Icelandic team had done following their victories, and got a strong response from the French crowd.

Some Icelanders may not have been happy that their chant was borrowed, but the French team has always spoken well of their Icelandic counterparts, be it before their game in the quarter-finals, where France beat Iceland 5-2, or thereafter.
Good-naturedly, Alfreð Finnbogason, a member of the Icelandic men’s national football team, tweeted to the French, “It’s not nice to steal…. But if you win @uefaeuro you can borrow our celebration.” The tweet was followed by a smiley face.
The French team’s brightest star, Paul Pogba, explained on Instagram, “Good evening, everyone. We respect Iceland and their fantastic and encouraging celebration.”
Pogba is one of the world’s best football players. He may return to Manchester United from the Italian club Juventus in a world record deal.
