Twenty narrated videos shot in the ocean around Iceland by diver Erlendur Bogason in the past years will be published online shortly where people can watch them for free. None of the material has been screened publicly before.
“Most of the videos were filmed by Arnarnesstrýtur [geothermal vents in Eyjafjörður, North Iceland] … [Others] off Grímsey, in Þistilfjörður and off Kolbeinsey,” Erlendur told RÚV.
Erlendur has turned his footage into 20 three-minute long episodes, or short films, narrated in Icelandic and English.
“We tried to find something special about each animal, so that each episode would center on something unique. We tell the story of the animals we feature,” Erlendur explained.
“The male lumpfish picks a nesting spot and prepares the nest. Then he hopes that a female will arrive and spawn with him,” one video plays.
Erlendur, who offers diving tours and runs a diving service in Akureyri, said that he wants to open the world of the sea to the public. “I think of it as a gift to Icelanders so that they can learn about life in the ocean and see what we have to offer.”
