Free Concert in Reykjavík Culture Center

Icelandic musician Egill Ólafsson and the Caput ensemble sinfonietta will perform in a free concert in the culture center Gerduberg in Reykjavík tomorrow at 2 pm. They will perform a composition based on A Giant Love Story by Gudrún Helgadóttir with illustrations by Brian Pilkington.

Composer Gudni Franzson has written a song to the lyrics of Pétur Eggerz, which is based on Helgadóttir’s story.

It tells the tale of the ogress Flumbra, who falls in love with an ogre who lives far away and embarks on a risky journey for one night of passion with him.

She bears him eight ogre boys and once they are old enough she takes them to see their father, but the trip doesn’t go as planned.

The music to A Giant Love Story was originally written a few years ago for a children’s concert at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra but has now been adapted to a smaller band.

The concert is part of the Gerduberg Tóney concert series, which is intended for music lovers of all ages.
