France Beats Iceland 1-0

The Icelandic women’s national football team lost to France last night 1-0 in its first match at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 in the Netherlands RÚV reports.

The game seemed to be headed for a draw when in the 86th minute France was awarded a penalty kick, which resulted in Eugénie Le Sommer scoring for France.

By all accounts, the Icelandic defense was very strong, and the result was disappointing for the team.

The French team ranks third on FIFA’s list, while Iceland ranks 19th.

Iceland’s second game is scheduled for Saturday, when the team plays Switzerland.
