Framestore, the largest digital visual effects company in Europe, has opened a daughter company in Iceland with the intent to work on similar projects as the company undertakes in London and New York, like making the polar bear from The Golden Compass.
Framestore has also undertaken projects in relation to the Harry Potter movies. The first project which the Iceland branch worked on was a music video for The Chemical Brothers, Morgunbladid reports.
Dadi Einarsson, managing director of Framestore in Iceland, said the company believes Iceland is a good location for digital visual effects projects. There is a perfect mixture of artistic and technological knowledge in Iceland, Einarsson said, and if everything goes according to plan, Framework could eventually employ dozens of people.
Framework is especially looking for animation experts and Einarsson hopes that Icelanders who have a background in animation and are currently living abroad will consider returning to Iceland now that there are job opportunities matching their ambitions in their home country.
Einarsson added that there are many aspiring animators in Iceland.
