According to police, it was very fortunate that the fourteen year old girl was not hurt, nor did she cause harm to others, when she drove a car at breakneck speed into a crash fence. The car did however not come to a complete stop until it hit a lamppost. It is believed that the girl was driving at 140 kmh.

The police received a tip-off just before midnight last night that the girl was driving the car in question. Police officers spotted the vehicle shortly after and indicated to the driver to stop the car. The girl however did not comply.
She instead continued to drive along the main roads of Reykjavík but lost control of the vehicle near Holtagarðar shopping center, with the aforementioned consequences. The car was completely destroyed.
The driver tried to escape from police but they quickly caught up with her.
The girl was then transported via ambulance to the hospital’s emergency room where it was determined that she had escaped without any major injuries. The car’s airbags were inflated, which the police believe is the reason she walked away from the accident
After receiving treatment, she was relocated to the appropriate institution and child protection services were contacted. The story was reported by all the major media today.
