Four Questioned in Hit-and-Run Case

Sudurnes Police arrested three men and one woman on Sunday night to question them in relation to a hit-and-run accident in Keflavík on Friday, which cost a four-year-old boy his life. They have the legal status of witnesses and were released last night.

The suspected driver was arrested on Saturday and will be held in custody until Thursday. He still claims to be innocent and says he has an alibi, Morgunbladid reports.

Police are currently investigating the suspect’s vehicle. It has not yet been possible to prove that he was sitting behind the wheel at the time of the accident.

Residents of Vesturgata in Keflavík, where the accident occurred, closed the street for two hours on Saturday to protest against speeding in their neighborhood. They met with Mayor of Keflavík Árni Sigfússon yesterday, who said a preliminary speed bump will be established on the street before next weekend.

Long-term safety improvements include other speed bumps and traffic lights on the intersection of Vesturgata and Birkiteigur where the boy was killed.
