Four Percent of Icelanders Watch Clapton in Concert

Almost 12,000 people, or four percent of the Icelandic nation, attended the Eric Clapton concert in Egilshöll arena in Reykjavík on Friday. The concert has received good reviews although the planning of the concert has been criticized.

Visir.is reports that Iceland’s presidential couple attended the concert.

According to Morgunbladid, the atmosphere was good throughout the concert. Clapton began by playing well-known blues songs and the atmosphere reached a high when he switched to hits like “Cocaine” and “Wonderful Tonight” later in the concert.

Organizers were criticized for, among other things, lack of air conditioning; the temperature in the concert hall reached 29°C (84°F), but according to concert organizer Grímur Atlason everything had gone according to plan.

“It would have been better to get rid off the heat. The air conditioning system is however very loud so we only ran it at full power when we had the chance. It would, for example, have drowned out the sound of the acoustic guitar,” Atlason told mbl.is.
