Six people have been remanded in custody in connection with four large-scale cases involving the smuggling of narcotics to Iceland. The four cases are not connected, according to police. Two are being investigated in close cooperation with police authorities in Copenhagen. This is reported in all the main media.
Two Icelandic men around 40 years old were arrested on 12 October with cocaine hidden in their shoes. The following day a man around 30 years of age was arrested with a substantial amount of cocaine hidden in his shoes and was remanded in custody. Two suspected collaborators were subsequently arrested and are now also in custody.
Several days later police in Cophenhagen contacted police at Keflavík airport and requested that an Icelandic couple be arrested on arrival to Iceland, as a substantial amount of amphetamine was found in a bag linked to them at Copenhagen airport. The confiscated amphetamine and cocaine is reported to be nearly 2 kg in total.
On 19 October, two men in their 20s were arrested in connection with the import of some 10 kg of hashish that arrived via courier from Denmark.
