Four Icelandic Musicians to Play at Eurosonic

Four Icelandic bands and musicians are scheduled to perform at the Eurosonic music festival in Groningen, the Netherlands, January 15 to 17, Dísa, Hjaltalín, Helgi Hrafn Jónsson and For a Minor Reflection.

The festival is an important platform for young bands because it is attended by scouts from the largest music festivals in Europe and the national European broadcasters also have representatives at Eurosonic, according to an Iceland Music Export (IMX) press release.

Each of the national broadcasters sponsor a musician or a band to play as their representative at Eurosonic, and Dísa will be representing Iceland’s national radio channel Rás 2 at the upcoming festival.

As for For a Minor Reflection, the Eurosonic concert booker saw the band open for Sigur Rós in Amsterdam recently and was very impressed by their performance.

This will be the second year in a row where four Icelandic artists play at Eurosonic. Many years before that, there was only one concert by an Icelandic musician or band.

“It shows how much the Icelandic music scene has grown in the past few years and how much interest there is in what Icelandic musicians are doing abroad,” said managing director of IMX Anna Hildur Hildibrandsdóttir.
