Four Icelandic asylum seekers are registered with the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) and one Icelander has the status of a refugee. This information is accessible on the UNHCR’s website. In the year 2011, there were three Icelandic asylum seekers and one refugee.
No Icelandic agency has any information regarding the matter, according to Kjarninn. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has no information, nor does the Directorate of Immigration, or the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police.
The UNHCR has not provided any other information about the individuals. Authorities in a country where asylum is sought are not allowed to contact the refugee’s home country, according to the Directorate of Immigration. Thus, the whereabouts of those four individuals remain unknown.
